Athlo is a new app that is revolutionizing the way people work out. With the use of micro-commitments and gamification, they are turning fitness into a game.
The Athlo Founder, Matthew Mansell, was sitting in his apartment when he became frustrated with how boring exercise is and what an enigma it remains about how much you want to do it.
In 2011, he entered the Makers Academy to create an app to help people make healthier decisions about their health; it was not until 2015 that Matthew Mansell finally published his app and launched his company.
- What does the App do?
This is an app that turns the time you spend exercising into a game where you compete with yourself to burn calories. Users are given a daily calorie goal that they must “win” daily, and it is up to them to decide how they want to get there. The final number of calories they have burned will be rewarded with points, but they will also be spent on tasks within the app to keep you interested. You play against yourself and those with the same goals as you on your app.
- Target Market
According to Matthew Mansell, the App is for anyone who wants to get fit and improve their overall health, whether for sports, weight loss, or general fitness. We aim to make people more physically active in their lives through gamification, even if it is something that they do not consider themselves to enjoy. The main demographics are 18-35-year-old males and females in urban areas. Still, we have also recently launched “Challenge Race”, which allows you to compete with friends and family regardless of where they are located.
Athlo is the next fitness unicorn turning fitness into a game that is fun and easy to use. Currently, they have over 1 million users, and the rate at which they are growing is steadily increasing, with a clear focus on continuous improvement and adaption to the needs of their users.
