Bobby Kotick’s story is inspiring and began in Montreal, Canada. He started his career at 11 years old as a sales clerk in a shoe store. From there, he moved on to a computer sales position. He eventually progressed to the role of Computer Sales Manager.
Kotick’s next step in his career was moving to video game software. In 1985, Kotick started up his first company called GameLab Limited, based out of Montreal, Canada. Kotick eventually sold it in 2000 for USD 35 million. Then in 2001, Kotick opened his next game studio and developed The Matrix Online.

In 2004, the company began to develop its own game and platform, The World of Warcraft. After creating and launching the company company’s online forum, World of Warcraft became a household name. When World of Warcraft was released, it generated USD 200 million in revenue, approximately a USD 1 billion gross income. It was all because Kotick decided to follow his dream and launch the company into what it is today.
