Colcom Foundation invests in organizations and services to improve the health, education, and economic well-being of Northern California’s rural communities. The Foundation was established in 1990 by Charles and Marjorie Colcom, who grew up in rural communities. The Foundation’s early grantmaking focused on pastoral health care, including creating a community health fund at the Siskiyou Community Health Center and grants to improve medical services at Trinity Meridian Regional Medical Center. The Foundation also provides general operating support to community-based health centers across northern California, staff support for California State University’s Rural Studies Program, and programming through its Food Access program that promotes access to fresh food in low-income areas.
Colcom Foundation accomplishes its mission by awarding grants to organizations across Northern California committed to securing healthy outcomes for all people. The Foundation was established in 1991 when Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corporation contributed $4 million to fund Colcom’s initiative to provide disaster relief for those living in the rural regions of Northern California. Today, the Foundation operates an endowed fund from which it annually awards grants.
The Foundation is led by a nine-member Board of Trustees, providing strategic guidance and oversight. A 22-member independent board of directors directs the Fund. The Foundation is governed by a nine-member Board of Directors, serving three-year terms, which are renewable by the board upon approval.
