Aspire to Inspire

Richard Liu Qiangdong, commonly referred to as Richard Liu, is a Chinese digital businessman and the creator of Jingdong Mall, one of China’s largest online retailers. He graduated in 1996 with a degree in sociology. His time was devoted to learning computer programming because the emergence of the potential of the new internet intrigued him. Liu, afterward went to the China Europe International Business School to pursue his EMBA.

As JD.com has risen to become one of the highest-level e-commerce platforms in the world, Qiangdong has gained spectacular fortune and success by dedicating his entire life to his company. $12.7 billion was Liu’s estimated net worth as of January 2018, and JD.com’s stock price has continued to rise because of global alliances with industry giants like Walmart and Google.

JD.com is likened to the ground-breaking online retailer Amazon in the United States. Liu Qiangdong is compared to Amazon’s mysterious founder and millionaire, Jeff Bezos.

Liu was featured as an Honoree in Variety 500 entitled, “JD.com Richard Liu; Founder / Chairman / CEO”, as a result of his persistence, innovation, and hard work. During his free time, the billionaire loves to either spend time with his family or volunteering at Red Cross.

In a storefront in Beijing, Qiangdong established his own company, Jingdong, in 1998 and began selling goods. In 2003, he expanded his store, adding 12 Beijing and Shanghai outlets. However, the outbreak of SARS in China halted his expansion ambitions and jeopardized the potential of Jindong’s expansion. As the number of users of the internet increased gradually to approximately 1 billion people globally, Liu started to consider the viability of an online business.

The first iterations of JD.com were developed as a result of these early considerations. Magneto-optical gadgets are the primary emphasis of the 2004-launched online shopping site. Electronics, laptops, mobile phones, and other technologically advanced goods were soon added to the line of business. See related link for additional information.
